Elmira Enforcers To Participate in Evan Davies 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament

by Jon Kliment

The Elmira Enforcers are excited to announce that they will be attending the Evan Davies 3 on 3 Basketball tournament in downtown Waverly this Saturday, September 21, 2019. The tournament will take place on Main Street in Waverly as the street will be shut down to benefit Evan Davies.

Davies is a local boy who is battling T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. The tournament is a fundraiser to help battle the disease. Evan was diagnosed in July 2017 after his parents took him to the hospital after observing consistent bruising, major fatigue and a loss of appetite in their son. Regular treatments and checkups followed for several months, but in April of this year, Evan’s leukemia returned, with the only chance of a cure being a complete bone marrow transplant. That transplant took place on June 25 — with donor cells coming all the way from Germany — and has thus far been successful, although Evan has to remain near the Golisano Children’s Hospital in Rochester for the first 100 days, which ends on Oct. 3. Proceeds are also going to Waverly Rec.

“It has always been a mission of the Enforcers to support not only the community, but the people here in our community as well. When Nellie and I heard about this event we could not have been more excited to offer our help. Captain K-9 will be down on Saturday along with members of our staff. This is a fantastic cause and I am sure it will be a successful event!” Robbie Nichols told media members.

The tournament will kick off at 9 a.m., with check-ins beginning at 8 a.m. Four players are required per team. For more information or to register as a team, sponsor or volunteer, contact Waverly Rec at 607-565-8641.
