Enforcers Add First Female Goaltender To Roster

by Jon Kliment

The Elmira Enforcers front office is abuzz with activity as today they are proud to announce the first signing of a female player to the active roster in Hannah Cochran. Cochran becomes the first female player in the Federal Hockey League since since Kira Hurley suited up, also in the Southern Tiers, for the Broome County Barons in Binghamton, NY.

Hannah plays at the Rec Rink in adult league play and has been a goalie for over 6 years. When asked about what got her into hockey Hannah said “My brothers and sisters played and we needed two goalies, my brother was one and so I decided to be the other.” After getting into hockey six years ago, she is the only one in her family who plays consistently.

When not minding the net Cochran is a therapist at Sayre Health Care. She also attends Enforcers games during the season and is looking forward to being a part of the team this weekend. “When I started I didn’t knowif I would be any good at it and to have an opportunity to play for my hometown team this weekend is truly special.”

Cochran will be putting on a clinic before Saturdays game for girls who are interested in the sport from 3-4 pm at First Arena. When asked about her advice for girls trying to enter the sport Hannah said “Keep trying. Just keep working at it, you never know when your opportunity will come.”

The Enforcers kickoff a three game weekend series with Danville Friday night, March 1st, as they begin their last full month of play in the regular season. Hannah will be dressing on Saturday night for Girl Scout night with the Enforcers, a 7:05 pm start. Tickets are available at the box office, through tickets.com, or by calling 607-734-PUCK.
