Enforcers Drop Tough Second Game to Wolves 6-2

by Jon Kliment

Following up a 4-2 loss in Game 1 of the Empire State Showcase up at Watertown Municipal Arena last night - the series shifted to Elmira's First Arena for Game 2 . There were plenty of positives for both sides, despite the outcome - but of course there's plenty more which is still looking to be ironed out prior to Wednesday's season opener.

The 1st period saw the Wolves jump out to a quick start as Tyler Bullard won the faceoff off to the left of Elmira's goal to Samuel Stormoen who took it top shelf glove side on Joe Young to get Watertown the lead with just 1:33 having ticked away. Despite an even period 11-11 in the shot column and plenty of opportunities, neither side was able to capitalize further and the visitors took a 1-0 lead to the dressing room.

Coming out of the break, Watertown struck first blood yet again as Nikolas Kalpouzos carried the puck into the offensive end after an Enforcers giveaway in the neutral zone, and fired off an odd angle shot. Waiting right on the doorstep was Jacob MacDonald who on his second chance buried it in the back of the net to stretch the Wolves lead to 2-0 just 5:10 into the frame. Elmira answered with their first goal of the night as Bryce Martin set up Brendan Hussey with a sweet pass, and Hussey set up JT Walters who tipped it by Nick Neidert to draw it to a 2-1 game. Watertown couldn't be stopped however as with 4:25 remaining before 2nd intermission, Josh Koepplinger struck once again as the dominant Wolves forecheck turned the Enforcers on their heels and led to an odd man break  stretching the Watertown lead to 3-1.

The 3rd period wouldn't be a quiet one. It was Gino Mini blasting one from the point to make it just a one goal game, 3-2. The Wolves would respond however with three straight goals later in the period, 2 coming on the power play. Fred Hein picked up his first goal in blue & gray before Josh Koepplinger slung his second of the night up 3:19 later. Parker Evans-Campbell put up the final blow of the night with 25 seconds to go with Brady Heppner picking up the helper and that would be all in a 6-2 Wolves victory as things did get chippy late.

The puck drops on Game 3 of the weekend showcase finale tommorow at 1:05pm inside the First Arena, don't forget to tune in on Mixlr and YouTube and don't miss a minute of Elmira Enforcers action.--
