Enforcers Prepare for Playoff Push

by Jon Kliment

As the Enforcers head for their first postseason in their first season as a team, their eyes seem to brighten at the mention of a championship. Every man in the dressing room believes in what this team is doing and that the path they are on will lead to success. In a room with a number of veterans and rookies alike, the captain Ahmed Mahfouz maintains a voice of reason during a tough stretch in the season.

Mahfouz came in to this organization as the first trade in Enforcers history and provided a face to an organization that had no history to speak of. Ahmed is a tough, gritty player who embodies the type of player any general manager would beg for. When the opportunity came to be the leader of a brand new organization Mahfouz not only came on board as a player, but as an assistant coach, and, of course, as a captain.

“It starts at the top. The ownership group here may want this title more than even some of the guys out on the ice. When you have an organization that demands nothing else but a win and a ring, that trickles all the way down.” Ahmed said. “I have confidence in all the boys in this locker room as we start against Watertown.”

The playoffs are on the horizon now as the team begins play in the first round of the Commissioner’s Cup playoffs. The Enforcers and their captain have all been through the competitive regular season, but the postseason has a completely different feel to it.

“When it comes to the playoffs one little mistake can cost you big and to go in on the road as the top seed it is that much more important to get that confidence boost.” Mahfouz said. “We are both going into this series 0-0 and even. It’s going to come down to hard work and commitment at practice this week.”

With that outlook the Enforcers are making final preparations throughout the week as they seek their first playoff victory and a chance at the Commissioner’s Cup. They will need five victories in order to ensure them a championship and they won’t come easy. The series starts on the road in Watertown,NY on Friday night April 12that 7:35 pm before returning to First Arena Saturday night April 13that 7:05 pm and if necessary on Sunday afternoon April 14that 4:05 pm.
